The Big 3-0

Yesterday was a big day.  Not only was it Olympic Torch Day in Harrogate, but it was Dan's 30th birthday! You know we made the most of it.

The morning started off with a home-cooked big breaky. It was the perfect fuel for the full day we had planned.

As you know, the Olympics are in London this year, and the whole country is getting into the spirit of the games.  We were so fortunate that the Olympic torch came through Harrogate on Dan's birthday! Pretty much everyone in his office (and the rest of the town) took the day off.

We took advantage of the gorgeous day and walked into town to meet up with our friends. We camped out pretty early to make sure we got a prime viewing spot. Rachel found this location for us. She did a great job!

We brought tons of food and drinks and just made a day of it. There was a good amount of entertainment too. Coca-Cola is a sponsor of the relay, so they had a couple of trucks come by passing out free merchandise. And our friend Ryan bought Dan a couple of birthday mementos: an inflatable torch, a gold medal and a British flag. Trust me, we made good use of them.

The best part of the day (tied with seeing the actual torch) was when Dan took his new toys for a spin. The crowd LOVED it!

Earlier in the day when she called to wish Dan a happy birthday, my mom suggested that Dan make a poster to hold during the relay. Let me tell you, this was a huge hit. People were constantly wishing him a happy birthday, giving him high-fives and thumbs up, and even announcing it over the loud speaker of a truck!

Great idea, mom

We had so much fun just waiting for the torch. When the actual torch came, it was just icing on the cake.

Aren't they adorable?

Here it comes!

Here's the torch!!

Isn't that awesome?? It's really a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.

But the birthday celebrations weren't over yet! After a quick nap, we went to a local bar called Revolution for cocktails and nachos. It was lovely. Dan and I both had mojitos--mine had a splash of pineapple juice. The drinks were OK, but the nachos were fantastic!

After drinks we went to Cardomom Black for some delicious curry.

We ended the night with one more flame.

It was definitely a day to remember! Happy 30th Dan. I love you and am looking forward to spending at least the next 30 together.
