For the past couple of years I've been growing out my hair for charity. I've done this once before for
Pantene's Beautiful Lengths and it was such a rewarding experience. It made me feel great knowing that with just a little patience on my part, I could help someone feel more "normal" while their life was turned upside-down to cancer.

Donating my hair in 2009 |
I think I'm ready to donate again, but I am not sure about when to do it. I've heard conflicting advice from new moms: on the one hand I want to be able to just throw my hair in a ponytail and not have to worry about any kind of upkeep. On the other hand, I don't want my hair too long in case the baby grabs on and never lets go.
If I cut the minimum donation requirement of 8 inches, I'll still be left with medium-length hair. I'm leaning towards going ahead and donating this week before the baby comes. Here are some options I'm considering--just for the cut, not the color. Thoughts?
Definitely do it this week before you give birth. You may experience post-partum hair loss as your hormones readjust to not being pregnant and possibly to breastfeeding, so if you wait on it you may end up with significantly less hair to donate than you originally thought.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a good point. I didn't even think about the hair loss.
DeleteI've donated my hair before, and it's very empowering. Perhaps a bit of empowerment before there's a new sheriff in town would be a great idea. Plus, after the baby comes, you'll feel so great to look in the mirror and love your hair, and a bit of good feeling might go a long way then. (I like the middle picture best because it seems the least styled. You don't want a cut that needs attention to look good.)
ReplyDeleteSo true! After the baby I have a feeling that any amount of "put-togetherness" will go a long way :)
DeleteI have no input on the pre/post-baby question, but I LOVE that Jennifer Garner hair picture! Let us know what you decide :)
ReplyDeleteI did it! I'll be back tomorrow with details and pictures!
DeleteI too like the Jennifer Garner hair. Bangs would look so cute on you. I do have to warn you about bangs, they were an adjustment for me (I just grew mine out after trying to keep up with the trimming of them). But, they are very simple to pin back if they are in your way!
ReplyDeleteGood point. I think bobby pins may become my new best friends.
